Schedule

The schedule block shows a weekly recurring schedule (opening hours, class times, meeting times, office hours) plus a list of upcoming dated exceptions (a holiday closure, a one-off special event, a cancellation). It also emits schema.org Event structured data automatically for each upcoming exception, so search engines can potentially surface them directly.

Fields

Field (label in the editor) Description Required?
heading (Location name) Name shown above the schedule (e.g. "Riverside Community Center" or "Main Street Library"). Also used as the event location in the structured data; if left blank, the site name is used there. No
body_text (Address) Address or location line shown beneath the heading. No
Weekly times (repeating)
day (Day) Day of the week, chosen from a dropdown (Sunday to Saturday). No
time (Time) Time of day, HH:MM, 24-hour. No
label (Event name) What's happening at that time (e.g. "Open", "Beginner yoga", "Board meeting"). No
Dated exceptions (repeating)
date (Date) The specific calendar date the exception applies to. No
mode (Effect) Whether this date replaces the weekly schedule for that day, or is added alongside it. No
time (Time) Time of day for the exception, HH:MM. Optional when Cancelled is checked. No
label (Event name) Description of the exception (e.g. "Holiday hours", "Open house", "Closed for the holiday"). No
cancelled (Cancelled) Checkbox: marks the entry as a cancellation rather than a scheduled time. No

All times use the site's configured timezone (Settings → General), not the visitor's local time or the editor's.

Rows are added with Add weekly time / Add exception and removed with the row's remove button. A row you add but leave otherwise blank is dropped automatically when you save, so you don't need to delete it yourself.

What shows on the public site

  • The weekly schedule always shows every valid entry you've added, regardless of date.
  • The dated exceptions list only shows entries falling within the next 14 days. An exception dated further out simply won't appear yet; it will as its date approaches. This keeps the block from listing a full year of holiday closures at once.
  • A cancelled exception still appears in the list, marked "Cancelled," rather than being hidden.

HTML safety

All fields in this block are escaped and rendered as plain text, and none of them accept raw HTML.

This block also supports the standard appearance controls: background color, border, text color, padding, margin.

Using it

Place the block in a page or post with its name:

{{block:opening-hours}}

The block must be published to appear. A draft block isn't used when the site is built: the page shows nothing in its place (the page source contains <!-- block:opening-hours not found -->). After publishing the block, rebuild the site or re-save the page that uses it.

Example

A community center with regular weekday hours, a weekly class, and a holiday change:

Weekly times

Day Time Event name
Monday 09:00 Open
Wednesday 18:30 Beginner yoga
Saturday 10:00 Open

Dated exceptions

Date Effect Time Event name Cancelled
Dec 24 Replace times on this date 09:00 Holiday hours (closes at noon) No
Dec 25 Replace times on this date Closed for the holiday Yes

Location name: "Riverside Community Center" · Address: "123 Main Street"

Until late December, only the weekly times show. Once December 24 and 25 are within 14 days, the block also lists them: the 24th with its holiday hours, and the 25th marked "Cancelled."
