Built with Chinaski

Content Authoring

Everything about creating and managing content, the bulk of Chinaski’s daily use. The section is large because the authoring surface is complete: long-form writing, reusable blocks and stacks, media and downloads, forms, taxonomy, scheduling, review workflows, and bulk tooling. The pages below all assume the mental model from Core Concepts (language-carrying content, trash instead of deletion, revisions and audits everywhere).

The core content types

  • Pages: structural content with hierarchy, templates, and per-page SEO; landing page and raw-HTML variants too.
  • Posts: dated, categorized, tagged articles feeding the blog index, archives, and RSS.
  • Blocks and their types: the composable atoms; stacks bundle them into reusable sections.
  • Shortcodes: the {{block:name}} / {{stack:name}} / {{document:slug}} / [form:slug] syntax that places any of the above inside a page or post body.

Workflow features

  • The Editor: what the editing screen offers across types (drafts, per-user autosave, previews).
  • Revisions & Review: saved snapshots, diffs, restores, and the submit-for-review → approve/reject cycle.
  • Approval Workflow: the settings-level switch plus the practical rules for non-admins.
  • Scheduling and the Content Calendar: publish/unpublish windows in your timezone, future-date views, conflict flagging, and the .ics export.

Structure and reusable assets

  • Snippets: head/body code injections, global or per item.
  • Media Library: image handling, derivatives, alt text.
  • Files: the documents manager (downloads, tracking, folders).
  • Categories & Tags: the post taxonomy and bulk tagging.
  • Navigation: per-language menus and slots.
  • Authors: bylines and credited contributors.
  • Library: the browse-and-pick surface for blocks/stacks.
  • In-App Docs: the baked-in admin documentation and your own custom articles.

At scale

  • Bulk Create: hundreds of draft pages from pasted titles or title+body blocks, with mail-merge.
  • Importing Markdown: .md files with front matter into new drafts.
  • Import & Export: CSV/JSON round-trips for pages and posts.

The peculiar cases

  • Protected Pages and Landing Pages: password-gated pages and the unbranded/raw templates.
  • Forms: the full subsystem (builder, fields, submissions, emails/webhooks, spam/privacy), documented on its own subpages.

What runs before a build

Every page in this section edits the database. Nothing changes on the public site until a build runs (triggered by saves that affect output, the dashboard button, or an API call) and a fresh build either promotes completely or keeps serving the previous site. That single rule explains most “why isn’t my edit live?” questions: the answer lives in the build history.

Also in Content Authoring

Create and edit pages in the admin: title, body, language, slugs, parent and child hierarchy, template choice, and saving as draft or publishing.

The post editor fields and what each does on the live site: title and slug, language, body, excerpt, categories, tags, and pinning to the top.

Embed reusable blocks in any page or post with a single shortcode, and see how embedding works and the simple block types.

Use the Quill rich-text editor for page and post bodies: the toolbar, the image, link and block helpers, and what counts as valid body content.

Inject raw HTML, JavaScript, or CSS into built pages with snippets: head or body position, global versus per-page assignment, and typical uses.

Upload images to the Chinaski media library, see the automatic size variants and editable details, and how deletion behaves when content uses a file.

How categories, tags, and document tags work in Chinaski: one-level categories per language, lightweight post tags, and maintenance operations.

Build your site's menus in the Navigation screen: menu slots from your theme, per-language items, and the label, URL, and language for each entry.

Build contact, signup, and lead forms: submissions, confirmation and admin emails, webhooks, spam defenses, and privacy controls, page by page.

Schedule pages and posts to go live at a future time, and pages to come down at a chosen time, with a build fired automatically when content is due.

Understand Chinaski's three layers of editorial history: autosaved drafts, saved revision snapshots, and the review workflow with return for revision.

Put a password on any page or post: how to set, change, and clear it in the editor, what visitors see, and what the protection does and does not cover.

Move content into and out of Chinaski: the Markdown importer, JSON and CSV import and export, bulk creation, and the async job queue.

Build and manage stacks, named ordered groups of blocks you reuse across pages and posts, with nesting, layout JSON and per-language content.

Turn on the approval workflow so editors submit pages and posts for review, and admins approve them to publish or send them back with a note.

Use the Content Calendar: the month view of scheduled and published pages and posts, conflict flagging, bulk scheduling, and the .ics export.

Browse reusable blocks and stacks in the admin Library: grouping by type, the per-language listing, search, and what each entry shows.

Use the Documents manager to offer downloads: upload PDFs, ZIPs and other files, set title, slug and language, and publish them with tracking.

Create many draft pages or posts in one pass from a pasted title list or title-and-body blocks, with optional custom slugs per line.

Manage the Authors directory: editorial records with bio, avatar, contact and social profiles, kept separate from login accounts.

The block type registry: the built-in block types that ship with Chinaski, how to register your own, and the rules that keep the registry in sync.

Build campaign pages without site chrome using the landing.tt shell or the raw.tt template for fully hand-authored HTML, and what each renders.

Import a batch of Markdown files as draft pages or posts: how to start an import, the file and size limits, and reviewing before you publish.

Use the documentation built into the admin area: the ten shipped articles by subsystem, plus how to write and manage your own admin-only articles.

Use the four shortcodes that link a body to a block, a stack, a document or a form, and how the builder resolves each one at build time.
